What Hail Damage Looks Like

Hail damage is often misunderstood because it does not always create immediate leaks. The damage is cumulative — granule loss exposes the asphalt mat, which then oxidizes, cracks, and fails, shortening your roof's remaining life by 5-15 years.

On Asphalt Shingles

Circular bruising or impact craters where granules were knocked loose

Dark, bare spots on shingle surface exposing black asphalt mat

Random scattered pattern of impacts (not in a line like foot traffic)

Fractured or cracked shingle tabs on harder hail impacts

Soft, spongy feel at impact points — shingle mat is bruised underneath

Granule accumulation in gutters and downspout splash blocks

On Gutters, Metals & Siding

Dents on aluminum gutters and downspouts (visible from the ground)

Dings on aluminum fascia, metal flashing, and ridge cap flashing

Dented or cracked skylights, vents, and flue caps

Bruised or cracked vinyl siding panels

Dented outdoor AC units (soft metal fins show hail size clearly)

Damaged window screens and painted wood trim

Our Process

TNT's Hail Damage Inspection Process

1

Full Roof Inspection

We walk every square of your roof — not just the visible slopes — checking shingles, flashing, pipe boots, ridge, valleys, and all soft metals.

2

Photo Documentation

Every damage area is photographed from the roof surface with detailed close-ups. You receive a full photographic record for your insurance file.

3

Written Inspection Report

A written damage report you can share with your insurance carrier when filing. Includes damage assessment, affected materials, and impact counts.

4

Adjuster Walk-Along

If you file a claim, TNT can be present during the adjuster inspection to ensure damage is thoroughly reviewed from the roof — not just from the ground.

Disclaimer: TNT Roofing & Restoration LLC is not a licensed public adjuster. We provide inspection documentation and jobsite assistance only. Claim approval and settlement amounts are determined solely by your insurance carrier and the terms of your policy.

Honest Guidance

Repair vs. Full Replacement After Hail

When Repair Makes Sense

  • Hail hit only one slope or isolated area
  • Roof is less than 10 years old with minimal overall wear
  • Damage did not penetrate the shingle mat
  • Claim is below your deductible and roof is still performing

When Replacement Is Recommended

  • Roof is 15+ years old and already showing wear
  • Hail impacted multiple slopes with widespread granule loss
  • Insurance carrier approved full replacement
  • Upgrade to Class 4 impact-resistant shingles makes financial sense

TNT will always give you an honest, no-pressure recommendation. We have turned down replacement jobs that did not need it. That's what Integrity Is Longevity means to us. Learn more about roof repairs →
