Why EPDM Works Well in Northern Kentucky
Cold-Climate Flexibility
EPDM remains flexible down to -40°F, making it ideal for Northern Kentucky's freeze-thaw winter cycles that crack and split less flexible membrane materials.
Proven 30+ Year Track Record
EPDM has been in use since the 1960s with a well-documented performance record on commercial buildings across the Midwest and Ohio Valley.
Reliable Seam Repair
Unlike heat-welded TPO, EPDM seams can be repaired in cold weather with lap sealant and tape — practical for emergency leak repairs during Northern Kentucky winters.
Overlay Friendly
EPDM can often be installed over existing flat roof membranes, reducing tear-off cost and landfill waste for building owners across NKY.
EPDM Attachment Methods
Fully Adhered
EPDM membrane is bonded to insulation or substrate with water-based or solvent adhesive. Provides the best wind uplift resistance and is preferred for most commercial applications in Northern Kentucky.
Mechanically Attached
Membrane is fastened to the deck through insulation using plates and screws at specified intervals. Faster installation, lower cost, good for re-roofing over sound existing substrates.
Ballasted
Loosely laid membrane held down by river rock or pavers. Most economical for large commercial roofs with adequate structural load capacity. Easy membrane inspection and future re-roofing.
